I’ve always liked silicon. Partly because it features in all microchips so helps make our electronic devices work (and I love technology!). But partly because I had to do a project on an element when I was at school and I got silicon – so I ended up finding loads about it so seem to have more knowledge about it than any other element. I guess that has always stuck with me, even 10 years later!

I think Carbon, because it’s so important for life. It might seem boring and dull to some, but we’re carbon based, we wouldn’t be here without it. Also, in my work I look at carbon-hydrogen bonds a LOT, so I use it pretty much every day in the lab.
