The tricky thing about cancer is that there isn’t just one type, there are lots of types and they all behave a bit differently. So it’s not likely that there will be just one thing that can cure all the types of cancer. Having said that, there have been a lot of new approaches developed recently that look very promising so I am hopeful that we will be able to treat and possibly cure a lot more cancers in the future.

As for me, I don’t actually make drugs to treat cancer, but I do help pharmacists understand why their new types of medicines are working. So the work I do has helped us understand why some promising new types of nano-medicines are working well. This is important, because if we don’t know why something is working the way it does, we won’t be able to properly predict how it will work in different situations. Hopefully in the future, these nano-medicines will prove to be effective in people and they could help treat more types of cancer than we currently can. So, I hope that I am helping!

Cancer is outside of my area of work, so I can definitely say that I won’t sure it. However, I hope by sharing the work of scientists and engineers I can inspire more people to look at ways of solving the problem, develop ways to treat it and, eventually, sure it.
