After my undergraduate degree, I wasn’t sure what I wanted to do. I talked to a lot of scientists in my department and in the end decided to do a PhD (which is a 3 1/2 year course that gives you the chance to become a proper research scientist and earn the title of ‘doctor’ at the end). I chose my PhD based on the coolest stuff around in my University at the time, and that was with lasers. I liked that I could use them for biological investigation, because I really like biology too.
