Mr Wilkinson, my chemistry teacher. Chemistry was my favourite, although I really like sport so I enjoyed PE as well.

This changed every year!
My favourite teacher was probably Mr Deegan. He was a really down-to-earth guy, treated us all as adults and shared a laugh with us, and was really approachable. I still meet up with a drink with him when I can. He taught me business studies – though it wasn’t my favourite subject, my lasting memory of school is that he was one of my most approachable teachers.
By the time I left school I really loved drama and was fascinated by physics. Throughout school I’d always enjoyed writing so at times really loved English. But overall, I think my favourite lesson was maths. I loved spotting patterns, I loved the satisfaction of getting the right answer and being able to check and confirm for myself that it was the right answer – and know why. I was always good at it and I could use it in other lessons (such as physics) so it was a great tool to have all round!

I was interested in all subjects at school, and I got on pretty well with most of my teachers. However, my favourite teacher was Mr Hills and he taught me physics – we used to get doughnuts every Friday and discuss science together as a class. These discussions opened up my eyes to how physics is in everything around us, and this inspired me to follow a career in physics.
My favourite lesson ever was actually in chemistry, the one where the teacher put group one metals into water for our entertainment (or should that be education?)
