Wow, this is a very deep question! I think you could learn a lot about someone by asking them this… Now I have to have a think.

If I was the last person, then that means that humanity as we know it has come to an end somehow. The first thing I’d do is work out if it’s safe for me to go out or not – this would depend on what had killed everyone else. If I could go out, I would visit local libraries and learn as much as I can about basic survival – without other people around, I couldn’t use electricity from my house’s sockets, or the internet, and the gas supply to my house would eventually run out, so I would need to learn how to do some basic things.

I would be better off moving to a farm than staying in my current house, so I would go on trips to find a good one. Unless the farm had its own water supply, the water in the taps would not last for long, so I would need to assemble water collection devices in my garden. I would need to grow my own food as well, but in the meantime I could raid shops and houses for food – nobody would mind if I was the last person alive, after all!

Once I was safe, had enough food and had set up solar power to my house, I would want to do things to entertain myself and keep my mind off the fact that everyone I loved is now dead. I think maybe learning a martial art or a musical instrument would be a good way to keep my mind disciplined. I wouldn’t be able to do things like go rock climbing, or anything that could injure myself, because there’s no way I could look after myself with an injury like a broken limb. So I would at some point go to a hospital and assemble some instruments and drugs and tools for treating infections and so on, stuff I might need in an emergency.

I would also scout out some “bolt holes” to go to in an emergency, houses I could kit out with everything I need, in case I get stuck and need somewhere to run to that’s closer than the farm. I guess eventually I would want to go exploring, so I would need to make some kind of transportation to carry me and my supplies. There is a lot of stuff to learn in the world, and a lot of it is written in books, so I wouldn’t be bored, just lonely I think. If animals have survived, I would get some pets, definitely a dog to keep me company.

Now I think of it, if animals HAVE survived, they would be my biggest threat. Domesticated dogs in packs roaming the streets at night, hungry and desperate… maybe I would need to learn how to shoot a crossbow. I would try to release as many farm animals as I could, because they would die if they stayed locked up.

I would also keep a diary and hope I didn’t go crazy! What would you do?

I’d probably put the kettle on an make a cup of tea.

Assuming that there was enough food around, the most important thing would be to find something useful to do in order to stop yourself going mad.

I think I would start a big experiment,so that I would keep my mind active.

Honestly: probably go a bit crazy.

I’d like to wander the earth and take in lots of natural beauty, enjoy fending for myself for a bit, and visit a few places I wouldn’t normally be able to go.

Realistically, though, I think I’d be very very lonely.
